The BHS/GHS Writer's Handbook

In addition to our standard reliance on MLA, the BHS/GHS Writer's Handbook includes a section on APA (Section E) as well as several appendices, one of which includes twelve graphic organizers. If you see one that looks helpful, print-friendly copies will soon be available to download below and from the sidebar at the left. You'll also find copies in the Academic Support Center (now located in the old Attendance Office).

Rather than provide a copy of the handbook to every student, we've distributed classroom sets to every English classroom, though some fortunate students receive their own copies at their teacher's request. We've also printed extra copies for any others wishing their own copy; just ask us for one! You are also welcome to print whichever of the below sections you need, off-campus. Refer to the table of contents for help finding exactly what you need.

The year 2020 - 2021 marked the opening of Gallatin High School, and, as you can see from its title, this handbook will take up residence there as well—at least until the English teachers at GHS decide how they want to approach their own handbook. Perhaps it will continue as a joint venture...

If you need assistance interpreting anything within the handbook, please come to the Academic Support Center for help; this is complicated stuff. But the more you use the handbook, the easier it will become. Navigating your way through any manual—particularly style manuals—is an important skill that will stand you in good stead, whether for a college course or for a specific profession. The BHS / GHS Writer's Handbook is a good place to start.
